Frederick Maryland, the county seat of Frederick County, is what residents lovingly refer to as a “small-city, large town” kind of place. It still carries the friendliness and openness of a large town, but has the amenities and attractions of a small city. Located less than an hour from Baltimore and about the same distance from Washington, D.C., Frederick is perfectly located to enjoy what these large cities have to offer.

Frederick is located near the panhandle of Western MD, and is considered a part of the Washington DC & Baltimore Metropolitan area. As the biotech corridor extends up I-270 into Frederick County, many major employers are located within a commuting distance of Frederick. The largest imployers in Frederick are Fort Detrick, employing over 9000, Frederick Memorial Healthcare System, employing over 2300, Bechtel, with 2200, then Wells Fargo and SAIC tie, with close to 1900 employees. The largest government employer is the Frederick County School System, employing more than 5300, then the Frederick County Government, which employs over 2400.

Frederick Md is rich in history, from the colonial, to the 19th century, and civil war history. Major attractions include the National Museum of Civil war Medicine, The Barbara Fritchie House, many civil war battle fields including Monocacy Battlefield, located south of Frederick. One of the latest destination places for visitors has become the Historic District in downtown Frederick, a 50-square-block area with Federal and Victorian architecture, boasting unique shops and fabulous restaurants.

Frederick surrounded many National, State and County Parks. Baker Park is the largest of the City Parks, with activities for all, from picnic areas and playgrounds, sports fields and tennis courts, to an outdoor amphitheater where music and theater is enjoyed during the warm months.
